United's reservation system seems OK with journeys that return before they depart

Out of curiosity, I just talked to a UA phone agent who was very happy to autoprice the following remarkable round-trip itinerary:

Code:

26 March UA876 HND-SFO 0020-1745 (arrives on 25 Mar)
25 March UA875 SFO-HND 1930-2235

The phone agent priced this trip the same way that ITA does -- as a 447,570 JPY round trip using round-trip B fare basis BWRFA1 valid for ex-Japan TYO-SFO travel. I triple checked the dates with her and we discussed the oddity of the international date line in this situation. Fare like this:

Now, I didn't actually ticket the reservation, but I think that given that the itinerary autoprices, and the quoted price and fare basis match what I got when I looked with ITA separately, it should have ticketed okay.

(I can also price out a similar reso on Air Canada's Web site with a link generated via ITA.) The phone agent I spoke to wouldn't put the reservation on hold for me, which is fair enough.

This is a pretty advanced scenario to get right -- congrats to SHARES!

Amex MR to Aeroplan to United ???

My corporate Amex rep asked me what I didn't like about their product.
I responded that I was unhappy that Amex and United were not transfer partners.
He told me that there was a workaround where I could move my Membership Rewards to Aeroplan and then transfer that to United - all transfers were 1 to 1 with no fee to move miles from Aeroplan to United.
Is this true??

Booked award flight but cannot be retrieved on united.com

I just use my miles to book a flight last night. However, when I check it again today, I found it is gone. I don't know why, united shows "Your itinerary cannot be retrieved, since it does not contain any active flight segments." Anyone knows what happened?

Best way for transatlantic business class seat: award or upgrade?

$

Forgive my newbie like question even though I have been a passenger for decades and had hundreds of thousands of miles and higher elite status at one time on several airlines.

What is the best way to get a transatlantic business class seat on UA or AC?

a. buy it. Drawback: very expensive, possibly too expensive for me.
b. business class award: ok, am ready to do it but am a little short for a 2nd seat.
c. business class upgrade award: I am looking mostly at this option. Are they hard to get, harder or easier than a free award seat?
c2. any insight on Air Canada? Harder to get?

What I really want is a business class seat to Europe. A seat on the way back is ok but not as necessary.

Multi-City Fares

In February I flew a multi-city itinerary that included PHX-IAH-LGA (meetings in CT) PVD-EWR-IAH-BTR (visit w/ family) BTR-IAH-PHX for under $500.

Today I'm looking at a similar trip in May pricing out at >$2,000 when searching Multi-city with both ITA/Matrix and on United.

Searching for one-way tickets:
PHX - LGA on May 13 lowest price is 139.60 (G fare)
PVD - BTR on May 17 is 158.60 (K fare)
and
BTR - PHX on May 23 is 205.60 (T fare)
$503.80 all in

I'd really rather have this itinerary all on one ticket for IRROPS protection, but $1,500+ is a steep premium to pay.

I'm fairly certain the similar itinerary I flew in February was constructed by stringing together 3 one-way fares. I'm just wondering why I can't accomplish a similar feat today. Has United recently changed their fare rules to disallow this?

What airlines besides United and Star Alliance partners are bookable on United.com?

How accurate is the award ticket inventory via united.com

I need to book two tickets on my travel date, currently I saw only 1 saver award available and it is on the partner airline (Air China). Just wondering how accurate the award ticket inventory at united.com is, especially it is for partner airline? If I make two reservations at roughly same time, will the partner airline's award inventory got updated right away so my second book will fail? I used to have success for cases like that on other airline's award booking (for example, hawaii airline), but never tried on united.com..

Separate UA + LAN itineraries; checked bags all the way?

I will be traveling IAH-SCL on UA, scheduled arrival 08:50. I booked a separate itinerary on LAN SCL-MDZ, departing the same morning at 11:25.

Will it be possible for UA to check bags through to MDZ, or will I need to collect bags in SCL and then check-in at LAN? Thanks in advance for any advice.

A friend, who is flying TPE-SFO-ATL, has a four-hour layover at SFO. I would like to buy her a Club pass so she can take a shower, relax, before continuing on to another long flight.

I have no idea how to do that. Please advise.

Thank you.

PQD $2?

Just looking at a flight that posted for me

United K class
New York/Newark-London (LHR)
Base miles 10
Bonus Miles 12
Total miles 22
Premier Qualifying miles 3,466
PQS 1
PQD $2

I don't know how this PQD thing works but could this be possible - 22 miles for a 3466 mile journey - is it some computer glitch or could the PQD on a K ticket really be 2 USD?

(Couldn't find appropriate thread to post so Mods please move if one exists.)

Flying Standby w/ANA on United Issued Ticket

Anyone have experience doing this? Is it possible? Should I be asking ANA? Can you only fly standby w/in 24 hours or can it be done 48 hours in advance?

I tried to change the flight with United directly rather than standby, but they wanted to charge an exorbitant price.

Ticket is issued on 016 ticket stock. It is the first segment in a two segment itinerary (second segment is on United). The flight is a codeshare, and is issued as a codeshare.

UA 787 Routes

$

I turn to the collected wisdom of the crowd: is there an easy way to find all of the routes served by UA's 787s? I had the chance to fly one last year a couple of times, and enjoyed it much more than the 777 or 767 for the TATL trips I typically take.

Last year, for example, the 787 was used for IAH-LHR and IAH-FRA (or maybe it was IAH-MUC?). That service seems to have been cut back for this fall's flights with other, less personally desirable, equipment used instead.

I've searched the web for pages where UA-specific information on the 787 might have been concentrated but none seem to have been updated for a long time. Have I missed something?

Give up 3000 miles or transfer it

My dad has 3000 UA miles that is about to expire and he has no use for it really. If I pay to transfer it, it would cost me roughly like 2.5-3 secs per mile. Is it even worth it, should i Just let it go?

Thanks

Travel waiver for Brussels
The United family is deeply saddened by the tragedies in Brussels earlier today, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. The safety of United's customers and crew remains top priority, and all United employees are safe and accounted for at this time.

United had two arrivals at Brussels International Airport this morning. Flight 950 from Washington Dulles arrived at 7:01 a.m. and customers deplaned normally at the gate. United's second flight - flight 999 from Newark Liberty - was rerouted to a remote location and customers and crew have deplaned.

All remaining flights to and from Brussels International have been suspended until further notice from local authorities. Additional updates will be shared as possible.

United has issued a waiver for the situation impacting Brussels. Customers are permitted to make voluntary changes to their plans within the parameters provided.

Award airfare to Europe discounts?

In doing some Google searches it appears United occasionally reduces the amount of miles needed roundtrip to Europe from 60K per person to 45K (25% reduction). I found a few each of the last few years, attached 2015's below:

http://pointsmilesandmartinis.boardi...ets-to-europe/

I am planning a ski trip to the Alps in January of 2017 with my two teenage daughters so saving a total of 45K points for the three of us would be HUGE! Anyone have any idea if United plans on offering a discount for early 2017 and if so what time of year they generally have these promotions? Looking to fly into Zurich or Geneva.

Thanks!
