Is this a legal routing?

Trying to put an award together, all flights check out individually but don't show up when searching multi-city.
One painful 30 min phone call to UA ended in a disconnect.

This is the routing

NYC-CAI-JNB-WDH.
Stopover
WDH-JNB-NBO
Stopover
NBO-IST-NYC.

This seems like a proper use of the excurisionist perk, but for some reason it's not piecing together correctly.
I am having the same problem on Aeroplan, by the way.
Does this have anything to do with partner airlines?
There is Egypt, South African, Ethiopian, and Turkish.
Does UA have a limit on the number of partners on the award?
And, for that matter, does Aeroplan?

EDIT: Spoke to Aeroplan who are a lot more helpful that UA. A lot. Apparently the problem is JNB. Can't go through the same city twice, but the agent "validated" it and said she could book it. She couldn't give me taxes since I had no miles on the account. The site also doesn't shows tax amounts for individual flights, and comes to be about $500 total.
Does that mean the total will be the sum of the individual flgihts?

Companion Pre-Check removed when reservation split?

SO and I are in the middle of going LAS-LAX-SFO-LAS this weekend. He didn't have Pre-Check for some reason yesterday and after checking us in for today's, it is missing again. He just flew a few weeks ago without me and had it, so I'm wondering if it somehow got removed when I split the record on check in yesterday. Called Gold line and they say it is showing on their end, but the woman wasn't particularly helpful and told me to "ask the TSA" 😒. Is this a known issue?

Should PQD requirements be waived for children?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but I for one believe PQD requirements should be waived for children through the age of 18.

In my opinion, children fly with their parents or at times alone but rarely are they the ones buying the tickets, and unlike a lot of us who are able to meet PQD requirements since our companies pay for coach/business class travel, I think it's unfair to expect children to meet $ 3/6/9/12k spend requirements.

Now United as well as other US carriers have in most cases removed child fares already making the cost of travel higher for children. While I understand that on deeply discounted fares I don't personally tend to agree that's ok on the higher fare classes.

I am curious to what the community thinks on this topic and if there is anything within the US that would enable us to get carriers to rethink the PQD requirement (after all they don't require it of any member outside of the US).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Problem of changing one way infant tix to round trip

I have a round trip flight from EWR to NRT. A couple of weeks ago, I called to add my 4 months old to my flight, but only for the depart segment (EWR->NRT), and I was charged of 10% of one way. And I can see my baby in my flight confirmation now. But today I decided to bring him back with me, so I called United, tried to add the return segment, but the agent told me that the infant was linked to my ticket, both depart and return. So my question is that: is it possible that even if I was charged 10% of one way but the agent added the infant to both segments? If so, how can I verify the baby is on my return flight? (the agent said I could verify that from the flight confirmation page, but I can only see his name under mine without saying which segments). Thanks in advance!

Upgrading J award to F when seats open up

Hi,

I'm looking at booking two TG F award seats, but can only find one F award seat on most days. If I booked one in J and one in F, is there an easy way to upgrade the J ticket to F online without having to cancel the J ticket? Also, how is TG about releasing F award space in general?

Security breach? YYZ-IAH UA6109 20 Jan 2017

I had a really strange experience tonight on this flight.

Had a ticket YYZ-IAH-LAS with a 40 minute connection in IAH. Tight but doable.

As per normal, we precleared US immigration and customs in Toronto so the flight should have landed at a domestic gate in Houston.

About mid flight they changed our arrival gate from B to E but I didn't think anything of it.

At the gate someone came on board an announced that everyone must go though US immigration and claim their luggage. There was of course nearly a riot on board with people thinking that a) this was a mix-up and b) most people would be missing connections.

They routed us up through to international arrivals, but rather than process us (again) through immigration they instead did a cursory passport check. We had to wait for bags, and then all bags were scanned through the X-ray machine before we could exit.

Needless to say we missed the connection, but United did give us a hotel voucher and $40 each in food vouchers.

There were lots of "jokes" during this process of "Welcome to the Trump regime".

We asked a United agent if she knew what was going on, and and she just said "there was a security breach and US immigration is demanding this".

Anyone know if this was an isolated incident or did it affect other Canadian flights tonight?

Electronics off or we will need to divert?

Ok FT gurus, have a new one for you to help me with. Last night on IAD-RDU, we were in some pretty choppy air for the first 20 minutes of the flight. Then, the captain comes on, and states this:

"The ceiling of clouds in raleigh is very low. It is currently 800 feet and getting worse. Because of that, we need every device turned off now. This means switched off, not airplane mode. The reason is because if we have even just one device on, the air traffic control signal will get interference and we will divert. Our alternate airport is Atlanta. If you don't want to spend the night in Atlanta, we need the signal strong, so turn off all devices".

The fas then came on and repeated this.

Now, a few questions.
1-why Atlanta? Weather was bad there and it's not a ua hub and IAD is much closer (along with RIC, CLT, GSO, etc etc)

2-does the "air traffic signal" (guessing ils) really get weaker with "one device" on?

After we landed, the pilots were talking with a jump seater about how they had become "cat 3" (assume ils??) certified last week!

Also, when I went home, I found my computer was in sleep (yet on) and my iPad was in airplane mode (yet on) in my bag. I guess they were exceptions and didn't mess the signal up?

is buying Coach and looking for an upsell always a better deal?

The last few revenue tickets that I bought in coach, the immediate upsell offer was always a lot better than buying Biz outright.

If Biz is not required but would be welcomed, is it always better to buy coach and look for the offer?

Advice Needed -Trying to Figure Out a Flight Change

My son is doing study abroad this semester in CPH (he is currently there). When I bought his ticket he was unsure about his return date in late May, so we made an educated guess since the fare was so good (around $400 RT) that even with a change fee, it would still be pretty good. Now that he knows the date, we were off by a week. I just looked at his itinerary and there is a notice from United saying:

<<A schedule change has occurred to your travel plans.
Please review the changes highlighted in red below, then select the appropriate button.
If you accept the changes, please select "Accept New Schedule" and your reservation will be automatically updated.
If the changes won't work for you, please select "Don't Accept New Schedule" as we have options for you>>

His original ticket was CPH>LHR>IAD; the delay is a very minor one on the LHR>IAD segment; only about a 20 minute difference. I was hoping for more of a change so I would have the chance to possibly work it to my advantage and change the date with no fee. SO....what would you do? Should I wait longer and see if there are more schedule changes and hope for something that would warrant a "free" change? Should I "not accept" now and call United customer service?

I have been all over United's website and can't find any detail on flight changes other than same day changes. I believe that it's $200 change fee (he is just a GM of MP) and ticket was purchased in October. And the $$$ would be the fee plus the change in fare, is that correct?

Thanks for any help here. Although I fly United more than any other airline, I don't think I ever have had to change a flight before!

Unidentified substance, anyone care to guess what this is?

I was told this definitively by a lounge agent-- it will become standard domestic F. She admitted it will not be good for UA vs. B6 and other competitors.
