I just made Global Services for the first time (7 full fare business and first class SAN to HKG - $100K spend - the company's not mine) and I thought I had really done something.
My company bought my 3 family members (cheap) tickets to HKG for Spring Break and I called about using my 6 global upgrades for them. United told me the tickets needed to be W class to have the upgrades applied and the cost would be $255 a ticket and they'd be waitlisted for the upgrade, so I thought that it was worth a shot. I just got my credit card statement and I was charged $255 per ticket and an additional $250 per ticket for a change/penalty fee. I called United Global Services to find out what was going on and here is where it gets crazy. 62 minutes on the phone! At the end of this time a supervisor in Detroit agreed that I hadn't been informed of the additional charges and that there was no guarantee for the extra $1520 dollars that my family would get upgraded so they would refund my money. This is Global Services? Seriously? 35 minutes on the phone to process the upgrade, a mammoth screw up and 62 minutes to get my money back? I have to start flying back to Hong Kong myself and my company buys me business class and I am seriously thinking of switching to Cathay. Does anyone have experience with them? What is their FF programs status like?
Thanks for any comments.
