Can I buy upgrade with UApoints and earn on another *A card?

Hi, I have a flight coming up with UA. I paid for an Economy ticket and want to earn points on my SQ card.

If I upgrade to Business Class using UA MileagePlus points, can I still earn the Economy points on my SQ card? or must my whole booking therefore go onto UA MileagePlus?
