On a recent flight out of IAD, I was in the middle of the ticketing line for 1k/GS/etc. As we waited, I specifically noticed a guy try to enter the 1k line who realized that he needed to go to a different line, the one for Premier Silver/Gold--I could hear him say something sarcastic about not being an elite flyer. The Silver / Gold line was 2x the size of the 1k line from where I resided at the time. He made it to an agent before I arrived at the front of the line...how ironic!
THEN
In the premier security line, I watched the regular line cruise by. Then, a fellow business traveler right next to me ducked out to go into the regular security line. He was long gone before I even made it to the TSA rep.
I guess the moral of the story is: when at IAD, it's faster to go through the normal lines...
PS For the 2nd consecutive transcon, had another 1k sitting next to me in the exit row--starting to rethink whether paying for the higher status is really worth it.
