I live in Charleston SC and travel CHS to IAD on a regular basis. United used to have several flights a day in this market, now there are only 2 per day on most days. This started around the first of the year.
Most of the business travel on this routing is for SPAWAR employees and government contractors working on SPAWAR contracts (military stuff). I am a government contractor. I now SPAWAR employees have all but stopped traveling in anticipation of budget cuts due to the sequester. They have stopped putting out new contracts, stopped travelling, etc. When the sequester was "put off" until March 1, it just continued. I don't know for sure, but I think this is the reason that UAL chopped their flight schedule for CHS-IAD flights.
What do you guys think? Anyone else seem a routing be chopped starting around Jan 1? A route that would serve a lot of business travellers on military work?
