I just spoke to UA regarding my reservation to fly EWR-PHX on a Thursday. Wanted to switch my award upgraded seats (coach to first) from the 5:30PM to the 7:50PM flight and UA said that there are no upgrade seats available on this flight. The rep suggested waiting to see if more open up the day of the flight. Does this have to do with the seats in different "buckets"? If I am already upgraded on one flight and the other has the same ticket cost, why shouldn't I be able to? He also told me that there are only 6 of 12 seats taken in F at this point.
