Wasn't quite sure how to word this so apologies if the title is misleading.
Hubby and I travel to US each September for our summer vacation. For the last 11 years it's been a Continental (now UA) flight from either Glasgow or Edinburgh via Newark to whichever destination suited our needs most. In the past we've had a plethora of options to choose from and on most trips could have selected final destinations in at least 2 or 3 places close to where we wanted to visit.
I've begun to research this years trip and am finding that there are very limited options in terms of onward flights from Newark and there even appears to now only be a single daily flight back to the Scottish airports where in the past there were 2 to Edinburgh.
I was initially looking at flying into Minneapolis and home from Omaha however the onward flights from Newark were limited and sometimes involved 5 hour stopovers. As I'd rather not pay in excess of £800 and have a long wait in Newark I started to look even at Chicago roundtrip but still the options were limited.
If these had been the only flights I could have understood however there seem to be many flights which I'm simply not being given the option of. Some of the options which were returned as the "first choice" were bizarre like routing via Brussels and total durations of anything up to 55 hours.
In the past I've traditionally booked at this time of year for September and haven't found this however I'm wondering if the flights for later in the year simply haven't all been loaded yet and if so when they may be updated?
It just seems rather odd and I wonder if I'm missing something really simple or maybe the good times have come to an end and it's simply going to be increasingly difficult/expensive to get anywhere in future with UA.
