Was traveling ORD-IAD yesterday morning (10/11) on UA424. At the gate, they preboarded a large group of WWII Vets - probably 25 or more. Before takeoff the captain got on the mike and gave them a huge thanks. He said that both he and the copilot were ex-Navy fliers and they understood and were immensely grateful for their service and sacrifice. Whole plane applauded. The pilot said we had a special treat when we arrived at Dulles. When we got there, the pilot thanked the veterans again and said that in their honor we would be getting a water salute.
