I have a round trip flight coming up which I've purchased already with cash. The flight leaves Thursday and returns Monday.
There is a small chance I'll need to leave Friday instead of Thursday. I can try to repeatedly SDC the Thursday flight until a better time on Friday but there is no guarantee that the fare classes will be open from that maneuver.
Alternatively, I wouldn't mind buying the outbound flight with miles since the price of the flight is very inflated right now.
So a couple questions:
If I decide to buy the outbound Friday flight with miles, is there some way to cancel my original outbound flight on Thursday but keep the return flight from Monday?
What's the latest I can buy the outbound Friday flight with miles? 24 hours prior? 1 hour prior? Something else? I know it's obviously subject to availability but aside from that, what are the restrictions from United, if any?
Happy to hear any and all thoughts.
Thanks!
