I was traveling from Stockholm to Newark this past weekend, and economy was oversold.
There were 24 business/first seats on the aircraft (with 18 of these seats being unsold), and they ended up upgrading 6 Global Services/1K customers from economy to business/first for free (no global upgrade certificate required) in order to get more passengers onboard in economy.
I'm United 1K and unfortunately, I did not make the cut with my L fare. What's worse, this was an old Continental plane, so my "Economy Plus" seat wasn't even really Economy Plus.
Anyways, I was just kind of shocked that there were 6 people that got upgraded on this route, and I wasn't one of them. Are there really that many Global Services members out there? I figured this was an obscure enough flight to get the bump in this oversold situation, but sadly, I was wrong.
