CC/Award CPU & Upgrade Standby List: Works for Partner, not United Issued Tickets?

Hi all,

As many of us have experienced, elites with Explorer/PresPlus/Club cards on United-issued award tickets are almost never added to the Upgrade Standby List automatically upon check-in.

Well, for the third time in a row, I've been successfully added to list upon check-in on LifeMiles-issued award ticket. This leads me to believe that the system is indeed, programmed to get this done, but that something with United's own tickets prevents this from happening as it should.

(See screenshot here via Dropbox as I don't know how to embed.)

My posturing leads me to believe it has something to do with the "stickiness" of the elite status on United issued awards. The LifeMiles awards come through with no frequent flier number; I manually added my UA MP#, and the "CPU eligible" indicators appear on my reservation.

It could also be that these awards are issued in "X" rather than "XN", but I've had "X" award booked with my United miles that still require a manual add at the airport (and most agents hate doing this).

The background process is clearly there, but it doesn't work for UA's own award tickets! Very strange.
