For those 1K's and GS's out there (and potentially Platinum, but I'm not sure), you may have noticed that the category of "Exclusive Resorts" shows up in the "Travel" category on the Mileage Plus Awards redemption site (http://www.mileageplusawards.com). They've got lots of great destinations, and the price per night is pretty great when you take a look at what you're actually getting.
I stayed with them last year in Cabo through United, and was very happy with the experience. I went to book another stay today for a milestone birthday coming up in August and was told they recently put in a new rule (pretty hidden) that says "Redemption is limited to one stay per MileagePlus account" so therefore I wouldn't be able to book that award, ever again. To any location they serve. Like, ever.
IMO, since that rule wasn't in place when I stayed with them the first time, I think I should be allowed to book one more stay under the new rules, which would THEN disqualify me for future stays beyond the one in question. That's fair. But denying me that just because I've stayed there in the past before this rule was put into place isn't fair.
I spoke with the internal Liasion for Exclusive Resorts (the guy that deals with United) and presented my case, but he said no, I couldn't book it regardless of the fact that I haven't stayed there once since the limiting rule went into play.
If I had known this was the deal the last time I stayed, I wouldn't have done a 2 day stay! I would have milked it for a full week...
What do you think? Am I overreacting?
P.S. Any GS or 1K's out there not planning to ever book an award with Exclusive Resorts?
