Thanks to a match, I'm now Star Alliance Gold through TK. This is handy, but I'd I think I'd rather earn my miles on my no-status united account. Can I earn miles on the united account but still take advantage of the star alliance gold benefits (baggage allowance, irrops handling, lounge access)?
The reasoning:
My thought is that I might be able to get things that are done in person (baggage, lounge) based on the physical TK gold card. But anything done virtually (irrops, wait lists, etc....) will depend on what's in the record. But perhaps there are tricks here I should know about.
The main reason is that the united miles are worth more (at least it seems given my likely redemptions). Also, status on United is worth more than star alliance status - if I credit United, I'll reach silver (woohoo...) this year. That will give me some baggage allowance, misc benefits, and a small mileage earning bonus, that will make earning on united more beneficial.
I won't make gold and make the TK benefits moot this year, and probably next year.
