Why send an Intl 752 to DEN?

I've got UA1643 EWR-DEN as one segment of a family trip next month (EWR-LAX nonstops were beyond my budget and I have an any-hub-but-ORD mentality). It's usually operated with a bog-standard domestic 752, as far as I can see, and even on the day I'm flying, SeatGuru thinks it's one - but United.com shows 16 angled lie-flats up front (10 already taken).

This isn't exactly good news, since my wife and I are both lowly silvers at the moment, and having 16 seats in F instead of 24 means lower upgrade odds for us.

From a remark in another thread, I'm guessing this might happen more often than I'd expect, though?

Pre-3/3, I never recall UA having the same flight # go back and forth between a city pair. Recently, I've seen it happen, e.g., #1643 EWR-DEN-EWR (nice flight to be in F, however :) ).

But it kinda makes me curious - why send the ship to DEN? I'm used to 752s being used on TATL routes by PMCO, don't think they have the legs for anything TPAC... and TATL from DEN wouldn't work either. Is there some DEN-South America route this would be heading for, or are they just doing the EWR-DEN-EWR to keep it busy between TATLs?
