Does booking an award flight decrease your chances of an upgrade?

The gf and I are traveling to SFO to BUF and back for July 4th and booked award flights using miles. She's UA Gold and I'm Silver; What effect, if any, does booking award travel have on chances of being upgraded? Also, does it effect our chances of getting a bump?
