I'm Premier Silver on United and I'm booked on a flight from the West Coast to Europe for me and my (well-behaved) 11-year-old. I booked us in Economy, but by the time we booked there were no two Economy seats together. So the website refused to assign us seats at all, with the "Seats will be booked at check-in" message. Right now, three days before we fly, there are available 3 widely separated Economy seats, 8 widely separated Economy Plus seats, 2 Business Class seats together, and 2 First Class seats together. (Also 2 more Business Class seats not together.)
So first, I'm anxious not to be seated apart from my 11-year-old, and second, obviously I'm interested in sneaking up on those Business Class seats.
I talked to a United agent at the airport as I was taking a different flight, and again to one on the phone. Both said that I can't be guaranteed seats with my child, but that "they'll probably shuffle someone around if they can."
So -- any ideas on how best to assure that I'm seated with my child, and how best to put into effect the obvious solution of getting those two adjoining Business Class seats?
