Hello,
I am a longtime United flyer out of LAX/DEN. I fly to Asia quite often for work and leisure. Many times I book business class or First when I want guaranteed aisle access. While I have enjoyed United over the years to Asia, United today seems to be in the process of transitioning some of their historic routes to Asia to 2 class planes such as LAX-NRT and I read they will do this out of SEA.
While I prefer 3 class for the wide variety of choices, I am not totally opposed to 2 class travel on United. One thing I do not like to see is 2-2-2 in Business as the only option when flying 2 class flights. I just flew on the 2class 787 from DEN to NRT in the window which is a newer aircraft and was not too impressed with the seat room. The middle section looked more spacious to me in business which I would pick next time.
While it was fun to fly a new plane I was wishing I had connected through SFO to get all aisle access in GF. If United insists on turning into a 2 class airline when for years it was 3 class it really needs to update its Business Cabin on the 2 class planes as this is the highest class of service.
I saw a Qatar video trip report on this site on the 787 and their Business class seats appeared to be 1-2-1, but I could be wrong. I also think American has 1-2-1 in Business on the 777-300, or if it is not it looked much more spacious than business on 2 class UA 777s.
Sitting in the window seat on the UA 787 from DEN-NRT was not the best experience there was as a 6 ft. 4 neighbor laying flat most of the flight and it was hard to exit. While I know the 747 business is 2-4-2 at least I have the choice of GF which is 1-2-1. I noticed the DEN 787 crew was not as friendly either, but that has nothing to do with the plane I would hope!
I am just wondering if there is any update as to whether United is transitioning the 2-2-2 seating to 1-2-1 if they plan to become more of a 2 class airline in the future. I pay a premium for Business and while I like United I do have choices now for better Business class if they are getting rid of GF on the routes I fly to Asia. I want to continue to give United my business, but if 2-2-2 in Business is going to be their top level of service instead of 1-2-1 I will start to find other airlines.
Thanks and I look forward to discussing on this site.
