I am a novice at using my miles ... I simply rack them up and let them accumulate but I'm planning a trip to south africa for winter and would not like to use them for an F or C ticket (any airline, don't really care) and I'd prefer to fly to CPT instead of JNB but not crucial either. I looked and it appears there is no award availability. Should I bother calling and inquiring further (NYC - SA 12/21, return 1/5) or just suck it up and fly over on Turkish (cheapest for $1,700)? I'm assuming the holiday season + high season + looking so late = S.O.L.?
