I have a biz trip GRR-AMS in September I need to book. Plan on upgrading using SWU (er, GPU) on W fare. Am UA Gold. Departure Sept 9th or 10th; return Sept 18th or 19th.
I fractured my ankle in mid-May. Recovered from that in time to take a tumble on 4th of July while gardening & broke my fibula bone near the knee (fib runs from ankle to knee on outside of leg) & re-injured ankle. Was in cast thing from upper thigh to ankle until last week. Late last week spent aft in ER after blood clot was suspected in lower leg (confirmed) due to leg injury*. Am on new blood thinner med for 6 months to dissolve clot & docs say I should be able to make trip.
While I've resigned myself to flying E+ int'ly in the future given my travel isn't what it used to be, on this particular trip due to all the above I'd really like to get C upgrade for lie-flat.
When I checked a couple of days ago there was C available on return but not outbound. Couldn't book at the time due to separate issue. Can book now. In checking today I don't see any availability in either direction on the dates indicated.
I'll take any routing - ORD, FRA, EWR, IAD, IAH (did I leave any out?) - that I stand a chance on clearing an upgrade for the int'l portion.
So - is there a way to tell which routing I stand the best chance of clearing a waitlist? Pre-merger you could call an agent & they'd give you an idea - hmm, IAD looks better than ORD, without guaranteeing it of course but it gave you an idea of which route to pick when booking. I don't think that happens now.
Any input really appreciated!
* The irony of having flown 3MM over the years & no DVT, but get it after 2.5 weeks on the sofa is not lost on me.
Cheers.
