I think all non-Hawaiian airlines should have to fly to HNL. Then, possibly then, we would have some decent service! Wide bodies, can I dare to dream of flat bed service? UA just cut their IAD-HNL and EWR-HNL twice-daily flat bed 767-400 service to once in the morning, connecting with nothing. They previously had one in at each around 9 and one at each around 1. I had a trip planned for 4 people on a 1 OM flight connecting to Hawaiian air, and that got slammed with the cutback at United. Now, I have to fly to IAD the morning (not afternoon, not evening) b4 and hope I don't have to pay extra for a hotel. At least they did a courtesy change of the first class from P to A (which means I can almost qualify for Aegean airs *alliance gold card, which initially extend for 3years and looks to be lifetime (Aegean gives 300% EQM for A, but 0% for P). However, if I have a * alliance card, and no ticket, I still won't be able to get into the clubrooms, unless I buy a dummy ticket at full fare and then return it. Hummm. YMMV. As always, do what you are comfortable with, as is said.
