I hope I can get some help from the folks here at Flyertalk. As part of my new job, I will be flying about 6 times per year from Houston to China (Not sure which cities yet)
Common sense tells me to go with United because:
Houston Hub (more connections)
More flights to Beijing/Shanghai (Can connect through ORD, EWR, SFO, LAX)
I don't have any status with United.
On American I do have Gold for life (1.3M Miles) and can do a challenge to get me to Platinum on the first trip, which would mean 100% bonus miles.
I know about the challenge on United where I can get my gold from American matched and then fly the required miles.
I guess my biggest concern is the 100% bonus miles on American vs 50% on United. When it's time to redeem miles with the family, it will probably make more sense to do United on non-stop flights out of Houston.
What do you think?
Also, I know this doesn't belong here, but I was hoping to find someone that travels to China a lot and can help recommend a hotel chain to join.
I hope I don't break any rules by posting the same question on the American board.
Thanks!
