A weekend went mechanical

My first A320 flight BOS-IAH went back to the gate from the runway with 'engine issues'. A few mechanics and 1.5 hours later we were finally on the way to IAH where we arrived > 1 hr late.

Of course my connection to SFO was long gone and Shares rebooked me on the next SFO flight leaving me w/ 2 minutes to make my connection to SAN

After a quick stop at the service center I was on the IAH-SAN nonstop. An hour before departure a large crowd was waiting @ C22 including a 'field trip of senior citizens' when we got a gate change to C42 announcement  Alright, @ C42 an A320 is being pulled in from the hanger and we start the boarding process after a few electric carts got all the elderly folks over the other gate. While we are still sipping on our PDB the pilot gets on the intercom informing us of a leak in the water tank and we could actually see the mess underneath the plane. After they pulled all luggage/cargo out they determined the damage was so substantial they had to take the plane out of service. So everyone got off the plane and after 15 minutes we were told they 'found another plane' @ C22 (original gate :rolleyes::confused::D:(). At C22 we waited 20+ minutes for the GAs and then another hour (!) for catering . In the end we departed 2 hours late.

On the way back from SAN to EWR (another A320) I just heard the FA yell 'make room for the mechanics to come through' as I was trying to get some snooze. Oh well, this time it was a quick fix @ the lav and we left only 10 minutes late.

On my last segment from EWR to BOS the ERJ145 pulled out of the gate and right back in since a tray table was broken and would not stay up. Mechanics were called again and thankfully it took them only 20 minutes to fix this issue.

Maybe I am unlucky, but this year I had a SINGLE disruption free trip on UA (6-segment r/t in July) and the amount of mechanical issues just this weekend pretty much reflects my experience this year. With a similar flying pattern and segments on Delta I have had not a single mechanical issue or any controllable delay; quite a remarkable difference IMO.
