Has anyone use UA ETC (Electronic Travel Certificate) - vouchers for refunds on unused tickets. I was on the phone with UA customer service trying to book a round trip KUL-MSN and after 4 hours on the phone trying to get a ticket on an S fare basis which no one in united can book but my travel agent has been booking that for the last 15 years for me -- and I can even show them that I am half way through this year's S fare ticket. Finally after 4 hrs, the supervisor comes on the phone and says that even if they can get me that an S fare ticket they could not allow me to use to ETC because one part of the segment will have to be a non UA flight (because UA has no flight in that segment and they partner with other airlines for that). There is no restriction in the fare rules for the S fare to use their partner airlines to fly those segments. Incidentally this supervisor was the worse person I have spoken to in UA, she actually became angry with me when I tried to explain to her that I was trying to get an S fare ticket -- she said that I shouldn't be allowed to know about fare basis and that I shouldn't have privy to that information. She refused to tell me the fare basis of the tickets she was quoting. Anyone else have similar experience and is it true that I can't use ETC on UA bookings if one of the flight is a non UA flight in the route?
