Checked Luggage on Multi-City Itinerary (non-

I'm new to UA (they recently began service at my little hometown airport--GFK). I'm looking at booking an award trip to OGG. The flight schedule that works for the dates I need can be booked as a multi-city (day one GFK-DEN-SFO; day two SFO-OGG; returning about a week later OGG-DEN-GFK). On an award ticket, could I get my checked bag at SFO and re-check it the next day? I'm non-elite but have the United MileagePlus Explorer Card. Over the years I've learned to pack light, etc. and probably can do one carry on bag. I'm asking the question as my spouse more than likely would rather check a bag.

Baggage will be checked to a customer's final destination or to a permissible stopover for the fare paid, except at some international destinations.
