In the Star Alliance network the United MileagePlus and Lufthansa Miles&More programs are the best and that is the reason I chose to do this comparison. Although I think MileagePlus is the better of the 2 programs, one can present an argument for Miles&More base on their interest. I live in the United States and the fact that I get complimentary upgrades if I fly United domestic and EconomyPlus on international flights for being 1K really appeals to me. As an American who leaves the country quite often getting Global Entry ($100 value) for free is another great benefit. Do your research and compare programs then make a decision base on value and enjoy the benefits of your loyalty.
