On a recent last minute full y fare flight from SFO to PDX, two F seats where still open at boarding. Since I was #1 on the list I approached the GA to see if I was getting a new boarding pass. The GA informed me that "those two seats are going to be given to two passengers that paid full business class fare on their connecting flight."
Seems to me that they may have paid C/J fare for their international leg, but obviously not the F/A fair for the domestic leg and besides should have been shown on the upgrade list. If they were on the upgrade list they were not GS or 1k because they would have already been at the top of the list when I was added. Since I was 1k on full y fare, that means they where plat or lower.
My point is this seems to be another instance of a GA screwing with the upgrade priority. I really don't care about the CPU for a 500 mile flight, but it is the failure of UA gate agents to clear upgrades in the proper order that is most irritating.
