I am a GS member and was looking for some insight from members who have travelled extensively in Asia, or others who might have information about United's future plans in the region. I travel extensively worldwide, most often originating in the U.S., and pretty evenly divided between Asia and Europe. I also travel, less frequently, to Latin America and the Middle-East. For the next several years I am going to be spending most of my time in Asia, and the vast majority of my flights will now originate from there. Clearly the prospects of maintaining my GS status seem pretty dim given that travelling within Asia, or even from Asia (Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, HK) to Europe - which I will do with some regularity - doesn't seem possible on United metal. Travelling back to the U.S. will happen infrequently for the foreseeable future, and certainly won't generate enough miles or spend to maintain my current status. Using partner airlines in Asia will still allow me to qualify for Premier 1K, but GS just doesn't seem possible next year given my new circumstances. Amount of travel and spend will the same, or more, but am I correct in assuming travelling within, and primarily from Asia to destinations other than the U.S. is going to mean losing my status? I have also heard the occasional reference to United's plans for an increased presence in Asia, but I think this may refer to additional routes, or stops, still originating in the States. Are there any plans that anyone knows of to offer my flights within Asia itself, or originating from there are going to destinations other than the U.S? Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated.
