In January I booked a flight to Paris for my wife and I in business class (I) using MileagePlus. The trip was TPA-YYZ-ZRH on Air Canada and then ZRH-CDG on Swiss Air. It was to be four days in Paris, leaving at the end of May. Later, I was notified of a schedule change that resulted in the YYZ-ZRH segment arriving several hours earlier. I called Swiss Air to see if there was an earlier flight into CDG from ZRH and there was, so I booked it.
Now, two months later, I checked the reservation on the UA website and was surprised to see it was now only a trip to Zurich! I called United and was told that the ZRH-CDG flight had been cancelled. While searching for another flight, the agent said Oh, now I see the flight but it has no seats. He said he could book us on a flight that left 8 hours later, which meant we would arrive in Paris at 6:00 pm instead of 10:00 a.m. As I was sort of moping and telling him, okay, book the late flight, he said Oh, good news. I can get you on the early flight after all . When I got the email confirming, it confirmed the late flight, not the early one.
I called back and the agent said sorry, no seats on the early flight, but maybe you can call Swiss Air. Called Swiss Air and they said there were seats on the early flight. Asked them to book me and they said only UA could because the flight is on their ticket stock. Called UA and they said there were no AWARD seats available, so they wouldnt change it. My four days in Paris changed to three days. So be it, but where did I mess up? I suspect by calling Swiss Air to change the flight? Also, why wouldnt UA or Swiss notify me that I no longer had a flight to Paris. If I hadnt checked, I would have found out on the day I was leaving I suppose.
PS Anybody know how to kill 8 hours in Zurich??
