Hi all,
This is my first post after lurking for many years. I've typically searched this forum and usually found answers to most questions. Many thanks to those FF experts who take the time to post replies to questions. I'm super grateful for this.
I hope someone can clarify a few details for me (that I searched for but couldn't find), but first some background:
I flew enough to reach Silver status once previously, but lost status 1/31/13 due to 2012 being a tough year financially. Although I don't have any status now, I have still held on to my PP card where I'm earning flex miles (and enjoying some of the priority benefits).
1. How do I know when my flex miles are expiring? I believe that most of my flex points came after 2012. I realize it's first in, first out, when it comes to redemption....but I want to make sure I use them before I lose them. I can't find this anywhere on United's website when I log in to my account.
2. Currently I have 19,000 flex miles. I'm about 9,000 miles from silver. Does it make any sense to redeem these miles to make silver now? I have 2 cross-country flights where I'll hit silver by August. Should I not redeem now, and try to save my flex miles for Gold? (Not sure, but may not have enough flex miles to upgrade to Gold -- unless I travel, which is possible, but not definite).
3. Which brings me to this question. If I wait to use my flex miles as an add-on to my mileage account at the end of the year....when does my 2013 miles account revert back to zero? I definitely don't want that to happen. Is it 12/31/13 or 1/31/14. When is the best time to use my flex miles for optimum benefit? I'd most definitely like to have status at some point, for as long as I can. Earning these flex points was very difficult, and I'd feel terrible if I didn't use them wisely.
4. I'm just going to throw this last one in.....but is there a glossary somewhere that could help me understand all of the abbreviations you all use? I need to be more informed!!
This post is way longer then I was expecting....sorry for the length!!
Thanks all in advance. I really appreciate it!!
Debbie
