So, I'm going to be flying a LOT between IAD<->DEN and RIC<->DEN in the next 24 months, due to my wife being away at a Master's program and I'm stuck working in DC and Richmond.
With the high traffic loads on the IAD/DEN route and the tremendous propensity for freak weather in Denver, especially in the coming winter months / hurricane season with IAD, I had considered adding the $25 or so trip insurance to the 6-7 RTs I have booked between now and the end of the year.
From reading it, it looks like I would most likely be covered in situations such as:
1. Snowstorm hits DEN; I can't get to the airport to catch my flight
2. Snowstorm hits DEN; ground stop and I can't make it to work in IAD by Monday
3. I make it halfway and get to ORD, but weather in destination keeps me from getting back to DEN/IAD
4. Hurricane comes through and everything's cancelled from RIC/IAD
5. Make it from RIC to IAD but get stuck at IAD due to thunderstorms
All of these are experiences I've had which have cost me before - usually in the form of a hotel stay in Chicago, but once a complete loss of the trip due to a snowstorm in the mountains making it impossible to get to DEN but flights WEREN'T cancelled out of Denver (AKA the Skiier's Curse).
So, my question is - has anyone actually taken this out and had it work out for them?? Any good stories or horror stories? The cost ($25) doesn't seem that onerous, but if it's just a total waste as some insurances are, it might not be worth the bother.
