trying to figure out the "Free one way" travel

Been reading from blogs about the free one way travel with awards booking and I am confused:confused::confused:

Will this work:

JFK to LAX - stopover, LAX to CPH (stop over), CPH to LAX or CDG to LAX for the regular 120k United Miles on Biz Class

Also, i just booked an awards travel for JFK to LAX for 25k Biz...If the above work, could I change it now without a penalty
