First flight on the 787 this morning IAH-EWR.
FL410, which would be normal. As we went along, we were about 2,000-4,000 above most traffic on the same J route. One thing I noticed as I was staring out the window, we were literally flying by the traffic. I don't mean seeing it in the distance and it taking 10 minutes to catch it and slowly pass.... It was a noticeable difference in speed. I went to the map in the IFE and it said we were Mach .87. Ok, that would make sense as to why we were passing traffic,,,, but that can't be a normal cruise speed, can it? I checked multiple times in the flight and it was .87 the whole way.
