pmUA ops immediately post 9/11

IIRC, the US national airspace was closed between 9/11 and 9/13.

But, during that time, did UA operate their 5th freedom flights? Did the flights ex-NRT operate? (ie NRT-BKK, NRT-SIN, NRT-HKG, etc...)

I Got HOSED by a redcoat flying standby

Im new and am venting--Been a continental/united platinum for 8 years. #1 on standby list (2 people total on list) today 15 minutes before the flight. There was 1 seat available on the plane and mysteriously the person behind me on the list disappeared and I was the only one on the list. as the united redcoat was closing the flight, he cleared a standby that he definitely knew personally in front of me. I went back and checked the standby list and the #2 passenger had somehow jumped ahead of me on the list and he got the seat and I got stuck another 6 hours in the airport.

When I confronted the redcoat he said that that the person ahead of me didn't have mileage plus status and that the computer does the standby priority list and that "he must have paid a higher fair". I know this is total BS and told him so and got him to admit that standby priority is based on status first. I think the guy that jumped me was flying on a buddy pass.

This is absolutely ridiculous

Has anyone else experienced this or something similar

24 hour cancellation policy for non-UA flights booked on UA.com

I'm holding an itinerary that is wholly on US airways on UA.com. If I purchase it, can I still cancel within 24 hours and get a refund or does that policy apply for UA flights only?

Adventures in plane swaps and a downgrade

My son and I were flying DEN-GRR yesterday and 48 hours before the flight, F was showing F9 and R5 with no seats assigned pn an A319. No CPU for us :(. Then, about 36 hours before the flight, we got our CPU :D and the plane now showed as an A320 with us in 3E and 3F. I was a bit concerned that the seatmap on united.com showed the correct seatmap for a 320, but said the flight was on a 319, as well as being in the third row - always a danger in the case of a plane swap. Even better, our 2 person PNR managed to actually generate mobile boarding passes . Unfortunately, that was the end of the good news. I woke up yesterday morning and the mobile boarding passes now showed that I was in 1B and my son did not have a seat assigned. A quick check of the seatmap now showed a 319

Of course, I immediately called reservations and was told that my son (who is 2 years old and no status) did not have a seat (duh, that's why I called). The agent did not seem to understand my concern over this, so I hung up and called again. The next agent was very nice, but said that the flight was under airport control, so I had to just show up and get it fixed there

We got to the airport and checked bags -the agent at check-in tells us we have to go to the gate and prints new boarding passes. This is where things really start to go haywire. The new BPs have my son (again, 2 years old and no status) sitting in 1B and my BP is just a security card as I apparently don't have a seat on the oversold plane . Even worse, my BP doesn't have a barcode so no PreCheck (luckily I still had our F boarding passes that I printed at home in my pocket).

At the gate, the agent was fantastic- he got us seats together in coach and some lucky premier got a battlefield upgrade to 1B. Even more amazing, the agent then proceeded to print out $250 downgrade certs for us.:D (while complaining about SHARES and how complicated the system was).

The amazing part of this is just how screwed up the system that deals with plane swaps is. Not only did it somehow swap my son and I (the reservation showed me in 1B, but the boarding passes had my son in 1B), but it also split a 2year old (in his FF profile as well as having a title of MSTR which a PMCO phone agent assured me would prevent this exact situation) from the adult who was traveling with him.

In the end, the gate agent did a great job of fixing the situation and handling a fairly worked up parent (that would be me) calmly and with empathy, but it was a really stressful morning.

FRA ORD lounge Q's for F passenger.

Hi All,

We are flying from FRA - ORD in F on UA metal for the first time in July.

I've had a quick look on here but there are so many posts! Can I confirm......

We can only use the Senator lounges in FRA when departing.

My partner can potentially use the 'Arrivals' lounge in ORD while she waits for me (Unfortunately she is on an earlier flight from FRA).

Lastly we use the UA first class lounge when departing ORD, Swiss first class lounge access is not allowed.

Thanks for any advice guys.

Applying US DM# to United Flights while both 1K and Chairman's

I'm currently Chairman's on US Airways (from last year), and just reached 1K on United this year. For the rest of the year I've got several United flights, but want to credit them to my US Airways Dividend Miles # to re-qualify for Chairman's.

My understanding is that despite holding 1K status, so long as that MP# is not on the reservation, I won't get any 1K benefits, or for that matter any benefits since UA does not give *G's much of anything in-flight (not even E+).

My current plan for these flights is to keep my UA MP# on them right up until check-in.

1. Since I've chosen E+ exit row seats for these flights, will I be "downgraded" out of these seats as soon as I check in with the US DM#? If so, am I able to choose the seat I'm downgraded into?

2. If I'm upgraded to first class before I check-in (while still having UA MP# applied), and then switch it to the US DM# at check-in, what happens exactly? Is there some auto-downgrade, and if so is it to a regular economy (non E+) seat? If so, am I able to choose that seat?

3. In #1 and #2, assuming I'd be downgraded, what happens if only Economy Plus seats are *available*? The possibility of this is why if anything it makes sense to check-in with the US DM# as late as possible, right?

4. What about if I use an RPU or GPU on a flight, then switch to my US DM#. Will I retain the upgrade, or what happens there?

5. On some of these flights I am traveling on a separate PNR (but same flights) with a friend who is United Platinum. If we were to combine PNRs, would I effectively be in the same upgrade line?

The important thing for #1 and #2 is that if I know for sure I'm going to be downgraded to regular Economy upon checking in with my US DM#, I'd almost rather just switch the flights to US DM# now so I can at least be sure to select a decent E- seat. I'm afraid I'll get downgraded right after check-in where I'd normally be choosing seats, and they'll stick me in a middle E- seat. Then again, since many of these flights are mileage runs for which I hang my head in shame, perhaps I deserve to sit there in punishment (and I accept my punishment).

Since I should have over 200,000 BIS miles between the two anyways this year, I may just wait for upgrades to clear on long flights and if they clear, keep the US MP#, otherwise switch to US DM#. Is that something people do in this situation?

Basically looking for some pointers from anyone who hits 1K then starts crediting to US Airways. I've searched a lot but this doesn't seem to be a common situation.

1K + Companion on EWR-MUC in Full Y - Buy-Up or Comp Upgrade?

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences flying in full Y-class on a similar itinerary as EWR-MUC as a 1K with a family member in the same PNR?

Would you get a complimentary upgrade or does one have to choose the buy-up?

(UA metal flight would be a LH codeshare on LH ticket stock)

Also, R-classes are zeroed out, all other biz classes Z and upwards showing _9.

Economy also showing V9 as the lowest class available.

Equipment Change to Two-Class Aircraft on International First Award

I booked a award ticket in F for my family from nrt-sin . The original booking says (O) and when I selected the seats it was a global first seat on a 777-300 I believe flight UA803 .

Now I log into the reservation and it says business first (J) booking and my seats have been moved around . I'm still in 1k 2k and 4e and 4f . I'm confused as to what the difference is between a (O) booking and a (J) booking . And if its a downgrade from globalfirst to business first .

Furthermore if it is what can I do about it at check in ? Can I demand the correct booking class or do I have any rights at all.

How E+ works with companions

I'm sure there is a thread on this but I can't locate it so I'm reaching out for help!

I've booked an itinerary for three, and neither of my two companions has status. If I split the PNR, will my companions have trouble staying in E+?

Short Checking A Bag Between Airlines

$

I know the official policy of UA is to not short check bags, but my girlfriend and I are flying MCI-EWR-YQB on UA and then YQB-YYZ-LIM-CUZ on AC seven hours later. She's worried about having luggage misconnect somewhere along the line (none of the connections are particularly troublesome), so to put her mind at ease, can I have UA short check my bags just to YQB? Or, I guess, would this be the likelihood anyway since it's in between airlines? (All one ticket, award travel.)

Thanks in advance,
Chris

So I got refused admission to the IAD United CLub....

This morning I was flying IAD-LAX, and tried to go into the IAD United Club near Gate C-8. The sign said United Club, and I have a membership in the Club, so it seemed like a logical place to spend some time before my flight.

The woman at the front desk was busy, so one of the agents at the counter called me over, and asked where I was flying. I told her LAX, and she told me that "this is an International United Club" and turned me away. She didn't scan my electronic Boarding Pass, or ask for my United Club Card.

I told her I thought it was ridiculous, since it says United Club outside, and it definitely wasn't the International First Lounge. She repeated that the Club was ONLY for people flying international flights....

I left and sat near my gate waiting for my flight, but thought I would check into things on my phone.... The United CLub near C8 was listed as a regular Club. I went back in and asked the woman at the front desk if it was a regular Club. She told me it was.

I asked her why the woman at the other desk refused to let me in. The woman from across the entrance again said, "this is an international lounge". Another employee standing nearby started to say that it was an international lounge too...

The front desk scanned my card and ID, and told me I could come in... I asked to speak with the manager. They left me standing there for 10 minutes, and I finally had to go because I could see my flight was boarding.

Funny that I then got onto a plane where Smisek talked about how it's the employees who make United Special... Maybe the IAD United Club employees should try watching that video.

No More F on IAH-HNL PMUA 777

I notice that starting on 12/12/13 UA has zero'd out all first class fare buckets on the IAH-HNL-IAH PMUA777. They are only selling Y and J. The seat map still shows a 3-class 777, however.

I hope this doesn't turn into another 2-class PMUA 777 route!

ORD-RIC-ORD: What to expect?

$

I'm flying ORD-RIC-ORD this coming week on United Express CRJ-700s in F. I know that I can't expect a meal like a mainline flight, but what CAN I expect? I have 1A on both outbound and inbound, since it's a solo seat--should I change to row 2 for legroom (I'm pretty short) or is the bulkhead alright? Can I at least expect a decent drink selection?

Last time I was on United Express, it was a tiny RJ with no F and no E+, and the drink selection was awful. The coffee was different from mainline coffee, the decaf was instant, and there was only powdered non-dairy creamer. Yuck! Is this what I have to look forward to? I'm only in F because I'm on someone else's dime, but can I at least expect decent drinks and a comfortable seat? It's a 2 hour flight--pretty long for an RJ...

Flight Attendants: Is there a way to be more discreet when favoring your friends?

I was on UA 939 Sunday out of IAD to PHX. At one point, there were 3 seats opened up in F for nonrevs. 3 of them boarded toward the end of boarding.

The female FA apparently knew them and came up from Y to tell the F FA about how great one of the passenger was (some kind of runner and made the US team for some events many times) and that to "take care of them".

It was just very noisy and party like in the cabin with the noisy female FA and the nonrev friends. I guess employees don't get to fly domestic F too much nowadays with CPU so it was a little exciting... Then 2 revenue passengers who were at these seats showed up last minute so 2 of them had to go to Y.

During the flgiht, I can see 4 glasses of wine plus cookies going to Y. I know the wine ended up at these passengers as I saw them, not 100% sure about the cookies.

Like what we discussed at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...pr-2013-a.html , I am all for giving them some perks but it should really not be this obvious and make other passengers feel left out.

In my nonrev days, we had rules to be discreet, etc... I guess even with the rules, if the FA actually choose to break them, there is nothiing the nonrev passenger can do...

United.com will not ticket the itinerary involving Turkish airlines flight

$

Should I do something or there is nothing to worry about?

I booked a multi-destination trip to IAH originating in Ukraine on United.com. Out of 6 flights, 2 flights are UA flights operated by LH, 1 flight is TK flight operated by TK, and the rest are UA flights operated by UA. Upon completion of the booking, I got the booking number but not the ticket numbers. The money on the credit card was not blocked either. The confirmation page said that United is waiting for TK to confirm the reservation. When I go to the reservation in Manage reservation, it does show the reservation numbers for both LH and TK, but displays the following message "Your purchase is confirmed. You will be promptly notified once the internal processing of your reservation has been finalized so that you can request additional receipts, export to Microsoft Outlook, refund or change your flight, view/change seats, check-in, or email or print your itinerary."

I made the booking yesterday, and today I called United representative in Moscow. He was surprised to see the reservation not ticketed yet, and said that United would usually ticket within 30 minutes after providing the booking number. I asked him if he could "force ticket" this reservation, which he said he could not do.

So I have a question to those of you who are experienced in booking with United - should I just wait for United to ticket this reservation in due course (it expires on May 29), or do something else to have it ticketed faster? The fare seems to be valid for ticketing only until May 28. I will appreciate any advice on how to resolve this.

A change I do not like but love - rebooking award reservations online

Just needed to rebook a O/W award reservation - same passenger, same destination, but different origin and different date. Have done this once over the phone before - the agent was cheerful and helpful and did it in the end, but it did take a good while. Just tried it online - wow - piece of cake! Select flight, select stored credit card for collecting additional taxes, and done. Only thing is you need to check award availability beforehand, as you have to pick an exact date rather than checking a calendar. But this is yet another reason for me keep using MP for earning hotel, credit card, iDine, and airline partner miles.

Expertflyer showing different RN/R when itinerary paired with different carriers.

He's a wierd one. I'm tracking BKK-NRT-HNL for upgrade potential through expertflyer. Flight I'm looking at is 6/9. The all United itinerary (838/880) shows RN/R = 0 for each segment. When looking at the other carriers for the BKK-NRT segment, RN/R becomes available. If I fly BKK-NRT on TG 676 then RN/N = 2. If I fly code share with NQ(UA9688) RN/R = 6.

If I just search UA880, RN/R = 2. Anyone understand what's going on? I'm new to expertflyer. Is this a glitch, am I doing something wrong, or is UA pricing different award availability based on the full itinerary instead of each segment?
