Exclusive Resorts Merch Award - Once in a lifetime?

$

For those 1K's and GS's out there (and potentially Platinum, but I'm not sure), you may have noticed that the category of "Exclusive Resorts" shows up in the "Travel" category on the Mileage Plus Awards redemption site (http://www.mileageplusawards.com). They've got lots of great destinations, and the price per night is pretty great when you take a look at what you're actually getting.

I stayed with them last year in Cabo through United, and was very happy with the experience. I went to book another stay today for a milestone birthday coming up in August and was told they recently put in a new rule (pretty hidden) that says "Redemption is limited to one stay per MileagePlus account" so therefore I wouldn't be able to book that award, ever again. To any location they serve. Like, ever.

IMO, since that rule wasn't in place when I stayed with them the first time, I think I should be allowed to book one more stay under the new rules, which would THEN disqualify me for future stays beyond the one in question. That's fair. But denying me that just because I've stayed there in the past before this rule was put into place isn't fair.

I spoke with the internal Liasion for Exclusive Resorts (the guy that deals with United) and presented my case, but he said no, I couldn't book it regardless of the fact that I haven't stayed there once since the limiting rule went into play.

If I had known this was the deal the last time I stayed, I wouldn't have done a 2 day stay! I would have milked it for a full week...

What do you think? Am I overreacting?

P.S. Any GS or 1K's out there not planning to ever book an award with Exclusive Resorts?

All ready to go and then canceled due to weather?

This was a first for me:
Last night on UA5751 (SAV-IAD) on 5/22, everyone was boarded and the jet bridge pulled away, but a minute or two later, the pilot apologizes that he just got a call "from headquarters" and the flight was canceled. Groans commence as SAV is simply not set up to handle this many pax issues at once.

During the subsequent 2 hours we spent in line to speak to an agent (I just wanted hotel and meal vouchers, as I immediately called to get re-booked the following day), the universal question among us was whether the claim that weather was the reason for cancellation was legitimate. After all, we were ready to take off and the intermittent rain had subsided hours earlier...

Risks in changing UA award tickets with partner airlines in itin

I've searched extensively and read a few horror stories but nothing directly related to my situation.

I have 2 business class award tickets to Europe through UA, in two PNR's, with UA metal on the outbound and SB (Brussels) and US on the inbound. I'm looking at changing the outbound to a different routing using UA metal and I am concerned about the effect on the SB and especially the US flights. There is no longer any US availability at all. I called UA and was told by an agent "no problem" but then he indicated that he would be issuing new ticket numbers which presumably have to be communicated to the partner airlines. I'm worried about that transfer being bungled and left with no return flights.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of change?

(FWIW while booking these tix a phone agent canceled my held itin and then reclaimed the flights. Fortunately he was able to grab them back, and didn't tell me about this until he was done. Probably a simple matter with UA flights but not always with partner ones.)

The new routing will have a 3-hour connection in EWR vs. the current 2:22 in IAD (dom-intl). I'd welcome any opinions on one over the other.

Multi-segment seat availability Puzzle

I've a flight from A to C (booked as a direct flight which makes an intermediate stop in B). United shows the bulkhead seat as available on A-B, and also on B-C. However, United shows the seat as not available on A-C (which is what my ticket is booked as).

Any suggestions on why this is, and if there is some way for me to book the seat from A-C? The helpdesk simply say that the seat is not available.

UA Res Screwup - cancelled SQ First - how to reinstate

I called UA to make some changes to an itinerary, and agent accidentally cancelled the SQ First Segment that I've been holding for almost a year. They called SQ and no one willing to budge.

Anyone have experience and am I just SOL on not getting to fly SQ F?

Saver award availability not displaying?

I was wondering if there has been a change to the way saver award availability is displayed for domestic tickets? When doing a search on united.com the date chart displays the green/blue that indicates saver first/business is available but when after clicking into a date only saver and standard economy shows as available.

I've run a few different random searches and I'm encountering the problem on pretty much every domestic city pair I've tried. Occasionally, there will be a connection available in saver business/first but the problem exists more often than not. International flight inventory doesn't seem to be affected.

I first noticed this on an EWR-HNL search. There was good availability on Wednesday, both direct and connecting, but when I repeated the search yesterday and today, I ran into the display problem. Just curious if anyone else has encountered this problem or if there has been a change I'm not aware of.

Australia Award Ticketing Issue - What Should I Do?

I'm not a familiar as I should be with using UA miles - Could you please give me advice?
1. Put an award ticket on hold that involved a partner flight (outbound on UA metal, return on partner - all in coach; 80k rt all in saver)
2. Called in and asked to switch out the partner flight for UA metal (in first; award should now be 120k rt all in saver).
3. Online webpage never updated to show new mileage amount - remained at 80k + taxes to book the ticket.
4. Last night I tried calling in to MileagePlus, but after being on hold for 1.5 hours (without speaking to a soul) I gave and and booked online (following a transfer in from UR points as I did not have sufficient miles to cover the full 80k).
5. Received a confirmation email after booking online, but the ticket is not "ticketed" yet and the miles are still in my account.
Should I call in or wait it out?

I have practically zero miles in my account and would have to transfer miles in to cover the difference between the return in coach vs first.

i was watching cnbc (i typically leave it on in the background while working) and a segment on DL's new terminal 4 caught my attention. it looks pretty nice truth be told, but when they talked about NYC being the biggest city for international travel, i definitely got a chuckle when i saw what logo they used for UA.

they got the new AA logo but used that interim UA logo everyone hated. got a laugh out of that. :D

Booked WheelChair does not show up. Dad collaspes waiting for immigration

I called United Airlines about 10 days before the flight and booked Wheelchair for my dad. The United airlines agent confirmed that the wheelchair had been booked and confirmed for the flight (FRA-EWR on UA51)

When he departed the flight @ ewr, there was no wheelchair person waiting for me. He saw wheelchair access for other passengers, but not for him.

He is 73 years old and has difficulty walking. He walked to the immigration and had to wait in line for more than 1 hour. He fainted and fell down. Other passengers helped him up and gave him some water. It took him 2 days to recover after the incident

I have sent emails to United via their contact us system but no response. Can someone tell me what I can do?
Thanks

UA to PVG on a 757-200

Not really, but it was still funny to read, since the part about the p.s. flight was towards the end (the flight number is for the connecting p.s. flight)

Quote:

We have an important message regarding your itinerary (XXXXXX) for flight UAxxxx to Shanghai, CHINA on XX/YY/2013. This flight is now scheduled on a Boeing 757-200 with flat-bed seats in United First, and personal on-demand entertainment and in-seat power available at every seat. This flight does not offer Wi-Fi. If you would like to change your travel plans to a p.s. flight that offers Wi-Fi, contact us at 1-877-826-0254, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central time. This email applies to this specific itinerary only.
The p.s. segment (as well as the PVG segment) was upgraded using a GPU. Would UA move the pax into C on another p.s. flight even without R space?

In the end it doesn't matter, as the only p.s. flights that can make the connection are CO 752s. A lot of the p.s. flights this weekend are the 16F config.

Dear all,

This dilemma was folded into the sched change thread. But it's not about a sched change, so I am rebranding!

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20546292-post179.html

I was originally set to fly LAX-EWR-TLV. Original flit had me on the early morning LAX-EWR , connecting to the early TLV flight.

On my particular day, US cancelled the early morning flight.

I now really need to decide my best course of action. Keep in mind that I am very time stricter on when I leave LA and when I arrive in TLV! Basically, I must be in LA until late afternoon one day and in TLV by a certain time two days later!
1) take a redeye to EWR the night before (F on a domestic 757) and have a 7 hour connection

2) take a redeye to JFK the night before (F/C) on PS, ground transfer to EWR, 7 hour connection

3) Drive LAX-SAN early morning and fly SAN-EWR-TLV

4) Fly LAX-SFO or LAS night before, then LAS/SFO-EWR-TLV.

I was just checking on seats and flights for an upcoming trip and the last segment, FLL to EWR shows no seats, no seat map and this comment ! "Reaccomodation Pending - retry later" in bright red. Anyone know what it means? My gut says they are dropping the flight and looking for a new place to stick us.....

Pop up survey during on-line checkin

I was going through the on-line check in for a flight tomorrow. I was in a hurry, so didn't get all the details, but there was a survey box which popped up at some point during the process. I think it was when the boarding pass displayed on the screen to print.

It looked like it started with a question about the purpose of the trip (Vacation vs. Business).

Anyone else ever see this? I have to wonder if they are trying to gather some data for more dynamic nonsense.

Do United BusinessFirst passengers benefit from fast-track immigration lanes at any of the following airports: CDG, SYD, LHR, FRA?

I seem to remember that the answer is yes for CDG and SYD, but I am not sure about LHR and FRA.

Thanks!

Access to LH lounge in BOS?

I'll be in Boston this week and will have a few extra hours before the BOS-LAX nonstop at 6pm. I noticed that there is a LH lounge in the E-terminal.

Has anyone used this lounge? Any issue getting through E-security with a UA boarding pass?

Thanks!

charged twice for E+ seats

Flew OGG-LAX last week, 2 days before departure, went online to united.com and paid around $250 to upgrade 3 seats to E+.

Then day of departure went online to change the 3 E+ seats to a different row (still E+). I was charged another $250 as if I was upgrading again.

What is the best way to get the second charges refunded? Fill in the online refund forms? or talk to an agent on the phone? (just tried calling and gave up when the robot voice told me expected wait time was 40 minutes)

thanks,

Leisure travelers more of a headache than business travelers?

Unfortunately today I had to fly COdbaUA from a small airport only serviced by COdbaUA to another small airport served only by COdbaUA. I am connecting on a mainline UA LAX-DEN. I sat next to a FA on the way to work her LAX- JFK flight. She mentioned that UA has lost all their business customers and noted how all the flight attendants used to not like working the summers because of all the leisure travelers. She said UA has lost so many business travelers that the entire planes even though still filled are full of a different kind of customer " the summertime leisure traveler" she said she and her fellow FA don't like it and she is thinking about quitting her job and applying with AA where she says she knows a huge number of her former business travelers defected to. I told her our $57 million also went from COdbaUA to AA and we will probably exceed 100 million with AA this year. I am wondering what is the difference in stress between a leisure traveler and a seasoned business traveler where the employees are thinking about quitting?
